Following-on from securing Advanced Green Technologies as a distributor of its rooftop CIGS technology, Solyndra has now tapped another Uni-Solar distributor in the name of California-based firm DC Power Systems. As with the AGT deal, no commercial details were provided by Solyndra.

Feb 27, 2010 – Congratulations to the Palm Beach Zoo for building the first and only Gold Certified LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) animal hospital in the nation. A new 80-panel solar installation covers the green facility. It will supply 13 percent of the building’s energy use with clean energy from the sun. FPL We provided the $100,000 grant to make it possible. It was just one step in helping the popular zoo on its quest to become greener and more sustainable.

Hans-Juergen Stangl of Stangl Semiconductor Equipment has stepped down from his position as president of the IPVEA board of directors due to personal reasons. Current VP of the board of directors, Sven Jarby from Oerlikon, will fill the position until the next elections on September 7, 2010 during the 25th EU PVSEC in Valencia, Spain.

There’s only a handful of industry veterans who have invested as much blood, sweat, tears, and time into the development of flexible thin-film solar photovoltaics as Jeff Britt. He joined Global Solar Energy in 1998, when the company’s copper-indium-gallium-(di)selenide technology was an R&D project, and any product commercialization years away. He spent several years as the company’s CTO and head of manufacturing, overseeing the construction and production ramp of its CIGS fabs in Tucson and Berlin. Last November, Britt replaced Mike Gering as president/CEO. I spoke with Global’s newish boss on the phone earlier this week about the latest conversion efficiency results from NREL and other subjects as well.

Deutsche Solar selects Eyelit, partner Systema to provide MES support for 500MW PV wafer plant ramp

Deutsche Solar has chosen Eyelit’s manufacturing execution software suite to support its photovoltaic wafer production ramp at its new 500MW facility in Freiburg, Germany. Eyelit and its partner, Systema, were selected to provide a scalable MES solution for the management of factory assets and production, along with material traceability and visibility from raw silicon through wafer processing, including ingot and brick production areas.
