Order focus: Sovello secures major module supply contract

November 29, 2009 | Comments Off

Since boosting its number of direct distributors this year and workers returning to full shifts in September, sales at Sovello would seem to be improving with a 49MW supply deal secured with German-based systems supplier MP-tec. The supply deal is through 2011 and the companies noted that with a limited availability of branded high-quality modules from European module manufacturers, securing the quantities would ease supply constraints as well as improve the speed of distribution.

Wanted: More solar energy powering photovoltaic production plants

November 27, 2009 | Comments Off

Why aren’t more solar production plants powered by solar energy? Although it’s not uncommon for solar cell and module companies to have some panels operating onsite, atop the roof or bolted to ground-mounted racks, they’re usually smallish test arrays, of no more than a few kilowatts, not serious power systems providing a significant chunk of the electricity needs of the plant. Nothing says “sustainability” like clean and green products manufactured using renewable power, not to mention the benefits for a company’s carbon footprint and energy payback time stats. That’s why the news of a couple more manufacturers plugging in decent-sized PV systems on their own factories provides a modest pretext to be thankful.

3S Swiss Solar Systems updates MegaSlate Solar roof system

November 27, 2009 | Comments Off

Product Briefing Outline: The MegaSlate Solar roof system from 3S Swiss Solar Systems is a pioneering, architecturally aesthetic BIPV concept designed for new builds and roof retrofits. The latest version of this technology enables an integrated, energy-producing roofing system which combines PV with solar heat – meaning home owners can produce electricity with the panels and warm up used water to support their heating systems. This product is certified by the TÜV, tested for wind and snow load, as well as for resistance to hail, offering optimal weather protection.

Dyesol enters China’s PV market with DSC prototype collaboration

November 27, 2009 | Comments Off

G-Energy and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Tsinghua University have entered into a contract with Dyesol to supply a BIPV dye solar cell (DSC) laboratory prototyping solution. The prototype solution will enable the collaboration partners to develop glass-based DSC product based on Dyesol technology and materials.

Kerself looks to acquire Albatech Srl

November 27, 2009 | Comments Off

Kerself S.p.A has signed a letter of intent with Meta System S.p.A in order to secure ownership of Albatech Srl. With the letter of intent, Kerself will own 75% stake of Albatech by the end of 2009 and the additional 25% by the end of 2010.

Heliatek moves to production phase of organic solar cells: receives US$27 million VC funding

November 27, 2009 | Comments Off

Having recently had their organic solar cells verified by Fraunhofer ISE with a power conversion efficiency of 6.07% for a tandem solar cell (active area of 2cm²), Dresden-based Heliatek has received a new round of funding to the tune of US$27 million to build its first production facility in Dresden. The start up had previously noted that it planned to increase the conversation efficiencies to 10%. Heliatek is targeting in particular mobile market and architectural (BIPV) applications.

CEOs cut ribbon for Stäubli’s building expansion

November 27, 2009 | Comments Off

Stäubli Corporation CEO Yves Stäubli, Stäubli Group CEO Rolf Strebel, and Multi-Contact CEO Franco Delvecchio have cut the ribbon for the Stäubli Corporation’s new building addition in South Carolina.
